Seasons of Life

It has been a while since I posted anything to the blog.  Life has been busy and we have still been taking photos.  It has just been hard to carve out the time for sharing them on the blog.  I am going to try to share some of the best we have taken since the last time I posted.  I hope to update the blog a few times a month to keep current on what we are doing. Hope you enjoy these pictures of beautiful Edmonds, WA.

Sisters' Portraits

As I've shared some of the pictures I took at my work of the kids.  The oldest sister has been coming to my center for a while and her little sister just started.  They are so great and the oldest has been posing for me and I feel like I've been able to get some great shots of  her.

I loved taking pictures of the kids with the dandelions in the background, I think it looks so cool, adds a lot to the portrait.

Living off the land

Nothing beats fresh food. I was able to go fishing with my Grandpa's brother this weekend and we caught some fresh salmon.  We cooked it up for dinner, it was soo good.   My wife and I picked fresh blackberries, lots of them.  She makes a delicious blackberry crisp.  I will have to get the recipe and post it sometime.

AdobeRGB vs. sRGB

I used to think it didn't matter which mode I shoot my pictures in and to an extent it doesn't.  I have found recently though that after editing the pictures to look great on my laptop, they turned out looking a little green on the web.  Here is an example of that.

Its a good photo, but he looks a little sea sick, or a little green. So after some help from the internet and my friends at Digital-photography-school.com I was able to figure out why.  It turns out that the internet runs on sRGB color space, which is smaller than the AdobeRGB color space my photo, so that when I shoot in AdobeRGB and edit it in AdobeRGB then upload it to the internet it clips the colors that are outside the sRGB color space.  Its a simple fix, with photoshop I just have to save the image as an sRGB for it to make the conversion for me and it does a great job of keeping the color.  If you want to read more about it you can check out the forum post I made.

Here is the picture after I saved it in sRGB.

Moonset

Last night Deb and I went for a walk, and as we were coming home I noticed the moon was setting and I thought I might be able to get it over the ferry at sunset. So I grabbed my camera and tripod and ran down to the bluff overlooking the ferry, and sure enough (after walking a little ways along the bluff) I was able to get the moon over the ferry.

Portraits

A few weeks ago I did portraits for the kids at my school (or for their parents). It was a blast and I feel like I'm much improved from last year. I had a hard time with some of the younger kids, and a hard time with the group photos. But for the most part I am very happy with how they turned out. Here is a peek at them. I have only gotten one photo release back, but it is for one of my favorite photos. I also have a hard time with printing the photos. I crop the photos so they look good to me, but that doesn't mean they are cropped nicely for a 5x7 or an 8x10. So, I always end up having to go back and try again.

Flowers

Had someone on Google+ suggest that I add more contrast to my photos to help them pop a little bit more. So, I started doing that. Here are two early samples.

Whidbey Sunrise 1

The first morning on Whidbey Island this weekend,  I got quite lucky, I woke up at 6:30, my normal time and instead of laying there, I decided to get up (mostly to see if there were nay salmon running), and I stumbled upon this beautiful sunrise.
