Song of the day for today is City on Our Knees - Toby Mac. It is a great song about starting to live how God wants us to live.
In my small group we have been reading and discussing C.S. Lewis, and this week we talked about our view of Heaven has been distorted. It is hard for me to wrap my mind around heaven and all the good that will be there. Often I feel like my life is good here, why would I want to give it up. C.S. Lewis mentions that people often think of heaven as some fantasy land, and people that spend time thinking a lot about it get a bad rap, as people that are escaping this world. But when we look back at history he argues, we see that people who are most concerned with Heaven are the very ones making the most impact on Earth. We get this dilemma, "aim for heaven and you get earth thrown in, aim for earth and you get nothing" (C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity). The song talks about why not now? what excuses am I making that keep me from living life to the fullest?
Luke Chapter 9:
57As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."
58Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
59He said to another man, "Follow me."
But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
60Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
61 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family."
62Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."
It's good to take time and evaluate where my real priorities are. Am I fit for service in God Kingdom?
